What is the difference between MIG, Stick and TIG welding methods?

MIG welding stands out as the most versatile and user-friendly welding method. It can be employed across a range of materials and thicknesses, although its welds may possess a different strength than stick/arc welds or the pristine appearance of TIG welds. Typically, MIG welding requires the use of carbon dioxide (CO2) as a shielding gas.

On the other hand, TIG welding excels in creating precise welds, but mastering it demands a steeper learning curve, and it boasts more limited applications compared to MIG. It finds its niche in welding thinner materials to achieve flawlessly aesthetic welds. Argon is the typical shielding gas used in TIG welding.

Arc or stick welding, conversely, serves heavy-duty applications where the utmost welding strength or the joining of thick materials is essential. The high arc temperature enables welding materials such as cast iron, which is challenging to accomplish with MIG or TIG welders.
